{"id":7383,"date":"2019-11-05T15:43:43","date_gmt":"2019-11-05T21:43:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/altingenieria.com.mx\/?p=7383"},"modified":"2026-02-05T16:43:42","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T22:43:42","slug":"alt-sigfox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/altingenieria.mx\/en\/alt-sigfox\/7383\/","title":{"rendered":"ALT at the forefront: Implementation of Sigfox technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">SigFox is a French company founded in 2009 that provides the<em>Low-Power Wide-Area Network<\/em>\u00a0(LPWAN) service \u2013 that is wireless and was created to work and interact with low-energy devices \u2013 such as sensors that run on conventional batteries \u2013 with data transfer rates of up to 12 bytes.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"codeless_sc\"><div class=\"blockquote\" >The network works with the UNB \u2013<em>ultra narro band<\/em>transmission technology  and consists in using narrow channels of the spectrum to reach great distances with a minimum energy requirement. The following illustrations show graphically  the advantages of using small bandwidth channels; the first shows that managing data in small bandwidths helps avoid interference while the second graph shows the energy consumption-bandwidth ratio of various technologies.<br \/><span class=\"source\"><\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8481 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/altingenieria.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/SigFox.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"181\" srcset=\"https:\/\/altingenieria.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/SigFox.png 480w, https:\/\/altingenieria.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/SigFox-300x113.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The operation of this network is very similar to cellular telephone networks because this network operates from the placement of several receiving and transmitting stations; The difference between SigFox and cell phone stations is that the devices and sensors that are connected to the SigFox network are not depend to a single specific base station, that is, any station can receive the information and transmit it to the cloud.<\/p>\n<p>The public band used for the exchange of messages in SigFox is in 200 kHz and in which each message has a width of 100 Hz and can be transmitted at a rate from 100 bits to 600 bits \u2013 those rates vary according to the country. Moreover the SigFox network uses bidirectional radio bands without an ISM license \u2013<em>industrial, scientific and medical radio bands,<\/em>\u00a0which are bands used for multiple uses except for telecommunications \u2013 in the United States of 902 MHz and in Europe of 868 MHz.<\/p>\n<div class=\"codeless_sc\"><div class=\"blockquote\" >Security is very important in this network, whereby each device must have an identification code assigned, it has VPN encryption protocols and uses the\u00a0<em>https protocol<\/em><br \/><span class=\"source\"><\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>A device can to work on this network, it is required that it contains a communication module compatible with SigFox \u2013 chips, board such as the MKRFox1200 or specific
